Was only in SF for 2 days as was based in San Ramon about 40km east. But try this place Trattoria Pinocchio on Columbus. This street is famous for Italian food.

Pebble Beach is superb... not a great golf fan but that place is superb... quite happy for anyone to come in and use their clubhouse and have a beer with a fantastic view of the pacific... I even wore my BASEBALL CAP and they never uttered a word.... far far less stuffy than the majority of up their own arse's clubs in this country... wankers

Re: California
If you like gold then Pebble Beach is amazing.

If motor racing is on and you enjoy then the famous Corkscrew at Laguna Seca is good.

Used them twice... first time it was extremely rough and although we saw 1000's of Dolphins we never saw any whales (very rare) ... they gave us a rain check to use again... which we did some 7 years later... more than made up for it on that trip... so many whales and was kept out there far longer than our allotted time... great company ... ke

Northern Sold 9:33 - Do you remember which company you did the whale watching with??

Seeing as i just missed out on my South America trip, i was meant to be doing a boat trip in Baja where you go out and the whales come up to the boat so you can stroke them etc

I'm off to the U.S in May for a month of storm chasing but could pop to SF area and do some whale spotting first, done the PCH, Yosemite etc which was amazing, drove all the way through, into Death Valley.

Re: California
Booked your Alcatraz trip when in SF? If not, you should.

If you are going to do a wine tour, do Sonoma valley, rather than Nappa, a little less commercialised.

Two days is plenty for LA, to do Hollywood, a studio tour etc. Venice beach worth a visit.

Good aquarium in Monterey.

Enjoy.

Re: California
Marriott Desert Springs is always a nice getaway, I’ve been going there for years. Love it there. It’s part of Palm Springs, fucking hot there in the summer.
Big Bear mountain is a nice two day trip, nice lake if you want to do a bit of fishing or hire a boat and play around on the water, good skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
San Diego’s Gas Lamp district (downtown) is a good spot for nightlife plus you can hop across the Border into Tiajuana Mexico for a crazy experience. Senor Frogs was the spot last time I went.

If the waters warm charter a boat and get some ocean fishing in, a lot of fun when the Tuna are biting, warm water brings the Marlin up from Mexican waters.

Big sur is an experience although PCH is closed due to a mud/ rock slide, so you can’t drive down the coast, but it’s an amazing drive.

If you’re in San Fran check out Carmel, nice little town, Clint Eastwood is the mayor still I think. A lot of homeless people in San Fran though so be warned.

In L.A you wanna check out Santa Monica Promenade and Pier, good Famous English Pub called the Kings Head too. Then there’s Venice beach that’s worth a visit.

Midway between L.A and San Diego is Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, just past Huntington Beach. All three are worth a visit, Mutt Lynches in Newport is on the board walk by the pier, that’s a good shout for a nice cold scooner of beer and chicken wings. Laguna is very artsy, lots of galleries, great beaches and coast and some nice restaurants. Las Brisas is a good little spot for blended Margaritas and Tacos.

New Parish, Oakland, and/or Bricks and Mortar, SF, for live bands/jazz - decent night out depending.

Also, watch the film Fruitvale Station for how to get around on the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit).

NS,
Going to Yosemite next year. Did you stay in the park, lodges seem expensive or did you stay near by?

Twice we done it once we stayed in Oakhurst (about 40 mins outside parks entrance) and a couple of years ago we stayed in static tents in Housekeeping Camp situated on the merced riverr... loved it... had raccoons squirrels and all sorts walking through our tent.... think it was about £75-00 a night... it does get booked up quickly though ,,, would stay there everytime now

Enjoy a truly capitalist state ray...

Then come back and tell us how Corbyn would improve California with more socialism eh ray? You know you want to...

Re: California
DAveT I stayed in the tents in curry village right in the park. Perfect for that feeling of being in nature. They are permanent tents with wooden floors, beds etc and a bear locker so you don’t get eaten. It wasn’t that expensive
